Welcome to General
Tanuki’s!
We’re so
glad you’re here!
Our family-owned restaurant features contemporary
cuisine, around the
world specialities, fresh sushi, and a hand-picked beer and wine
list for you to enjoy in what we hope is a pleasant experience.
The spirit of this place is captured by our namesake: Tanuki.
In tradtional areas of Japan, the Tanuki is a symbol of hospitality
and good times. We have been told that our Tanuki, located in
our window, started life outside a sake bar in Kobe, Japan
about a hundred years ago. He is a prime specimen, complete
with his pouch to hold Your money and his jar to hold Your
sake.
Your hosts are owners Matt and John General. Matt, John’s
son spent his formative years in California and Hawaii. John
is still awaiting his formative years but Naval Aviation sent
him to Japan, Hawaii, Thailand, China, the Phillippines, Vietnam,
Okinawa, Australia, and California. The General boys moved to
the Eastern Shore in 1990 and have called it home ever since.
We would like to extend a special thanks to all of our chefs,
especially, Executive Chef Stuart Yaap for his hard work in the
creation of our menus.
We thank you for being here, of course. If there is anything
that we can do to enhance your dining experience or visit to
Easton, please don’t hesitate to ask. We will do our best
to assist you.
Aloha!! Matt & John

As
written in Fodors:
A most unusual and exciting blend of Pacific Rim, California surf, and grandma's
kitchen await adventurous taste buds in this intimate venue. A tanuki is akin
to a Japanese leprechaun, and the creative flavors here play tricks on traditional
dishes. Imagine a restaurant serving buttery sushi and sashimi, lamb lettuce
wraps, Thai mussels simmered in Woodpecker cider, and a classic Hawaiian pizza
under one roof? Run, don't walk, to this place, and make sure to check out happy
hour (4-6 [pm]) at the U-shape bar. |
